Melissa's passion for yoga began 15 years ago when she began her own personal practice. She has now been teaching yoga for 5 years and loves the students she works with. She specializes in trauma and mind/body yoga and received her training through the Shambhava Yoga training in Kona, Hawaii. Melissa's goal as a yoga teacher is to help you connect with your own body and learn to listen to the communication of your body while being gentle and loving to yourself. Melissa uses breath work, props, & verbal prompts in her classes to help students develop a deeper practice both physically & mentally.
I completed my yoga teacher training in Tucson, AZ in 2008 under the Krishnamacharya lineage after taking yoga many times as a class at SUU during my college career. I loved moving my body and began for the physical practice, although what i learned in my training and what I soon discovered was that yoga is a wonderful tool for bringing consciousness, more clarity, and joy into life. My classes emphasize using conscious breathing to link body and mind (a meditation on the body, how cool!) while conditioning the body through asana. Long deep breathing helps to alkalize and de stress the body and moving the spine in all directions keeps it flexible and young.
